among inpatients ages 18 to 49: An opportunity for prevention." Preventive
Medicine, 27: 101-110.
The "TICS" consists of two questions about
substance use:
- In the last year, have you ever drank or used drugs
more than you meant to?
- Have you felt you wanted or needed to cut down on
your drinking or drug use in the last year?
According to Brown et al., one positive response indicates
a 45% likelihood of having a substance use disorder; two positive responses
indicates a 75% chance. Sensitivity and specificity are both around 81%.
